Why your child should be in diapers until middle school

Welcome to this week’s installment of WTF Wednesday, where the advice flows uphill as well as down.
Today’s question comes from our friends over at Kiddie Mojo, makers of some pretty cool stuff, who writes:
Dear IBMP,
Why does my kid have to ‘go’ 5 minutes after entering the car?
The easy answer to your question is: because they can. It’s all part of the Grand Conspiracy in which your child is a willing accomplice. No doubt your child was adamant that they did not need to pee before getting in the car. That’s how they do it: they front-load you with a false sense of security, wait until you’ve passed the last bathroom for several miles, then cross their legs and eyes and begin the familiar whine-and-squirm show.
Let’s look at some solutions.
It sounds as though you may have made a very common mistake: you potty trained your child.
The diapered child never has to “go”. It costs a bit more to keep your child in diapers until they’re ten, but the convenience really can’t be beat—especially since by the time they’re around 5, they can change their own diapers.
It’s best to set aside a little cash each week for a therapy fund, though. The “Don’t pick on 8 year-olds just because they’re still wearing diapers” movement is still lagging behind despite great advances in tolerance and anti-bullying awareness efforts.
If you have one of those ridiculously sensitive pre-teens that has a problem being seen in public wearing diapers, there still may be some options for you. In a post on potty training, I discussed several tips, but the section on conditioning is quite relevant. I’ve reproduced it here:
Potty training is serious business. There’s a reason it’s called potty training; it’s not potty practicing or potty wussy-half-assed-maybe-I’ll-use-the-toilet-and-maybe-I-won’t-ing. It’s training. And like all training, it requires years of conditioning and strong coaching. It requires both mental and physical readiness. And most of all, it requires a good laundry machine. Many people make the mistake of thinking potty training begins with an introduction to the toilet. This comes way later. Conditioning begins much earlier. The first focus of your conditioning should not be about peeing or pooping at all; it should be about not doing it. Sound counter-intuitive? Just wait until you’re at the movies and your improperly conditioned and trained potty “expert” declares their need for an urgent dash to the loo. That’s when you’ll realize that long before tossing the diapers in the bin you should have been working on stamina.Stamina involves several muscles, good pain tolerance and the gradual stretching of the appropriate systems (primarily the bladder and the colon). The ideal time to begin conditioning is when your child is still young enough to be unable to remove duct tape from key body parts. The goal is to gradually increase your child’s stamina. I recommend moving on to the next stages of training only after your child is able to sit through the average length movie (about 2 hrs; 6 hrs with commercials and trailers).
Clearly, the applications for car travel are self-evident.
For the particularly environmentally conscious family, here’s a great recycling tip: why toss out grandpa’s catheter and colostomy bags when you can keep them in the car with your child’s booster seat, ready to deploy on long car rides? Imagine all the time you could save—and you’d be doing your part for the environment. Did you know the average colostomy bag takes years to decompose in landfill?
If you’re the do-it-yourselfer in the family, consider converting an old toilet seat into a booster. The more adventurous can drill a hole right through the bottom of the car, eliminating disposal issues altogether. Before trying this, make sure that your car can outrun any angry motorists unfortunate enough to tailgate you at the wrong time.
If that kind of project isn’t within your comfort zone, try mounting the toilet seat atop a bucket. On hot days, just remember to empty the bucket once in a while. Generally, the burning sensation in your eyes is a good indicator that it’s time to check the bucket.
So you see, Ms. Mojo, even if you choose to potty train your pre-teen early, you don’t have to dread those long car rides. With the right training and preparation, you can start every car trip secure in the knowledge that your children’s bickering and fighting can continue without the hassle of having to stop, pee and calm down.
Problem solved! You’re welcome.

Age is nothing but a number, OR IS IT??
![]() |
| We're screaming "growing up is overrated" |
Important Ages
Ok, thinking of growing up for a number of people (including myself) we have three birthdays that we can't wait to reach.
16 yrs old- Is when most teenagers go get their drivers license! Big deal right? Especially if you're that kid that gets a brand spanking new car for your birthday. Yippee.
AT 18 - Then there are the group that can't wait until they're 18 because then they are considered ADULTS and can do whatever they want. Woot woot!
AT 21 - This is the ultimate party age.. you are now legal to go out and get chocolate wasted.
Then the excitement simmers down. I never really hear anyone say "Hey, I can't wait until I'm 30 so I can..?" Or, "Party time I'm 40 and YOU KNOW IT!" What about "I can't wait to turn 50 for my AARP Discounts." O.o
Does the excitement fade away as we get older? I have noticed that the older I get the younger I want to be, it's really more fun to be
Do yourself a favor and stay young at heart! Leave the growing up to the boring people...

The creation of the potion...

Unusual suspect Data was arrested while in the process of creating a youth potion for Kiddie Mojo. Now freshly out on bail Data has finished the potion and is putting it on the black market to help fund his anti growing up movement. The arrest was the motivation that he needed to take his movement to higher levels. "I've just began, muwhahaha" chuckles Data.

Why is growing up is over-rated - Reason #1: Bills suck..
![]() |
| Kiddie Mojo believes that "Bills Suck" Growing up is over-rated - Reason #1 Bills suck. Truth is, I'd much rather take another Disney World vacation vs. paying my bills. There, I said it. Would I actually skip paying bills to take an awesome vacation with the Kiddos? Of course not. That would be super insane! But hey, one can dream right? :D What would YOU do if you didn't have to pay bills? |

Fashion tips for babies
![]() |
| Mojo, Feather, Data, Karma & Tempo of Kiddie Mojo |
Enjoy it while you can
Easy On, Easy Off!
Toddlers have the patience, of well, two year olds, so make it easy on them. Choose easy pull overs that come off in one motion. Let them reach for the sky, and be done. Pants should be loose fitting so they can be taken off easily, as if they were playing a game. Trumpette socks are always a good match, as they just pull right off unlike traditional shoes. Breakfast will be complicated enough, right? Dressing should be simple.
Hassle Free Care
Caring for your toddler or baby has enough hassles. The last thing you need to worry about are their clothes. Babies and toddlers get messy. That's a fact of life. Use materials that are easy to care for(like these). Make sure all clothes, including trumpette socks, are machine washable, unless you prefer to go down to the river and wash laundry by slapping clothes against a rock :D
Pack for Three
Toddlers are messy, from ketchup stains to other messes that just shouldn't be talked about at the dinner table. Always pack for a crowd. Ideally, carry at least three changes of clothes, from underwear to shirts to pants to baby bibs. Unless you want your child running around like a little nudist after the diaper accident, it's best to bring enough outfits to fall back on. A few extra pairs of pants never hurt anybody.
Depend on Baby Bibs
Who says baby bibs are just for dinner anymore? Many parents choose to dress their babies up in baby bibs full time. It's just easier that way. Stains are going to happen. Babies cough up all the time. Plus, you can get many funny baby bibs online with hilarious sayings that make fun of Grandpa.
Don't Forget the Feet
Feet can be some of the coldest parts of the body, so always remember to pack on the trumpette socks. It's best to carry several pairs because they're easy to lose. Toddlers love throwing socks and other clothes around the room, so bring reinforcements. They come in just as handy as baby bibs!

Welcome to our blog!
Join us as allies in the fight against growing up!
It takes a team of passionate individuals (like you!) to help us spread awareness of the problems adults around the world encounter every day. Hey being a kid totally rocks!! Why grow up?
Because of these issues the "Anti Growing up Movement" was formed.
Take the pledge:
I will not grow up, I will get older but I will not GROW UP.
I will not take much serious, I will laugh at everyone when they are serious, I will not follow all the rules because rules suck.
I will always look serious as a disguise to blend in. Oh, screw blending in too.. "GROWING UP IS OVER-RATED!!!!!" - Kiddie Mojo
